Essentials for Animist Practice

Remembering the Living World

Part One in a Self Directed Study Exploration

1st Course

What if the world around you was not silent…but alive, aware, and waiting for you to return?

Re-membering the Living World is the first doorway in returning to animist perception in the Essentials for Animist Practice series.

It offers a gentle, self paced, grounded introduction for those who feel the tug toward living in relationship with a sentient cosmos.

Course 1: In this 4-lesson course, you will learn to sense a living world, awaken subtle intuition, and build foundational ritual skills for reciprocal relationship with the unseen and more-than-human.

  • Sensing the world as a community of living persons
  • Reawakening the subtle and clair senses
  • Listening with the body as an instrument of knowing
  • Cultivating relationship with the Spirit of Place where you live
  • Understanding how patriarchy, colonialism, racism, ableism, class divides, and collective amnesia have shaped our perception
  • Establishing foundational ritual skills for safe, respectful connection with the unseen world

This course is both a remembering and a beginning, a re-entry into the relational fabric that has always held you.

Shannon Willis, M.Ed

Shannon will be your guide for this immersive. Her work lives at the wild confluence of dream midwifery, oracular listening, ancestral reverence, and ritual arts. She’s the Ritual Director at Ancestral Medicine, and an initiate in the Òrìṣà tradition of Yoruba-speaking West Africa, she has also apprenticed herself to the dreaming wisdom of her own bloodlines and to teachers of Jhanki Shamanism.

Shannon writes and weaves spiritual accompaniment for emerging leaders and cultural edge-walkers—those drawn to the holy work of remembrance, repair, and rooted resistance. She dwells with her son and their furred companions near the mist-kissed shores of the Salish Sea, on the ancestral and living lands of the Twana-Skokomish people.
